Two STL Public Library branches add solar power

Newly connected solar panels are now generating power at the St. Louis Public Library Buder and Julia Davis branches, effectively capturing solar energy and converting it into electricity.

The solar panels generated about 18,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity in August and are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 240,000 pounds per year. Mechanical and lighting improvements will further reduce energy consumption, reducing CO2 emissions an additional 561,000 pounds and saving the library about $40,000 each year.

SLPL is also expecting more than $70,000 in utility incentives from Ameren Missouri and will be eligible to apply for Investment Tax Credits of over $230,000 through the Federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) for the solar installations.
