After reportedly having sex with a student in the back of her car, a married Australian teacher has been charged with having sexual relations with a child under her care.
Tayla Brailey, 30, was taken into custody at Lurnea High on Tuesday and accused with having sex with a kid while in care of them, touching them sexually, and engaging in severe sexual abuse of a minor while in charge.
The newlywed broke down and got distraught when officers arrived at the southwest Sydney school where she teaches, according to shocking court documents.
According to police, following an alleged sexual encounter, Brailey allegedly bought the morning after pill and transmitted videos of herself masturbating to the 17-year-old.
Early in July, once the boy added Brailey on Snapchat, the two started messaging one other, which is when the alleged affair with the student began.
“The accused [allegedly] sent a number of photographs and videos of herself both naked and while she was masturbating herself,” the police facts state.
“The victim also returned a number of photographs and videos of himself.”
Brailey then invited the teen to her North Wollongong home where she allegedly kissed him before taking him to an upstairs room and masturbating him.
Around a week later Brailey was on duty at school when she contacted the teen and told him she was free for an hour.
They supposedly had intercourse in Brailey’s car after meeting off-site.
According to the authorities, she then bought the morning after pill.
After that, the two supposedly lost touch until Brailey got in touch with the claimed victim to find out if he had told anybody about their purported sexual experience.
He denied it to her.
Later, the child admitted to authorities that he felt compelled to send Brailey graphic pictures in order to keep her “happy.”
According to police claims, Brailey acknowledged using social media to communicate with the complainant and two additional students.
Brailey is not facing any charges in relation to any other children but the court heard investigations are ongoing.
Brailey was married in 2023 and was supported in court by her parents and husband.
In a statement, a Department of Education spokesman confirmed Brailey had been suspended without pay.
“The safety and welfare of students are our highest priorities,” the spokesman said.
“The department has strong policies and procedures in place to ensure their care and protection and to act when employees are alleged to have engaged in misconduct.”
