Shardiya Navratri is one of the largest festivals of Hinduism. This festival has been celebrated four times a year: two are known as Gupt Navratris and two as Prakat Navratris. Shardiya Navratri has special importance because this is the time to worship Maa Durga, as devotees worship nine forms of the mother and call this Navdurga for nine days. People keep fast, worship, and do special rituals at this time. This festival is also considered a victory of good over evil.
The Hindu calendar states that Shardiya Navratri will start on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Pratipada Tithi is commencing on October 3 at 12:18 pm and it will conclude on October 4 at 02:58 pm. From Thursday, as per Udaya Tithi, Navratri will begin. Navratri ends on the day of Vijayadashami on 12th October.
According to belief, Mata Rani comes on earth during Navratri. This year, Maa Durga will come sitting on palanquin, which is not a good omen at all. This is in itself a sign that the economy will be bad and business will slow down. At the same time, the vehicle from which Mata Rani will bid adieu will be Charanayuddha (cock), which is again not a good omen.
The devotees visit temples and worship Maa Durga during Navratri. Special attention and devotion are seen while worshiping the goddess. The ability of devotees decides the fasts and worship. In this time, Akhand Jyoti is lit, and Durga Saptashati is recited.
At Navratri days, Maa Bhadrakali temple wears a vibrant look as there is a huge rush of devotees. On this, a special dola of Maa Bhadrakali is kept in which mother has darshan for her devotees. Here, devotees offer coconut and roti prasad. This temple is of religious and historical importance and is established as a Siddha Peetha.
Navaratri ends on the day of Vijayadashami, which is also known as Dussehra. On this day, people worship to get release from their sins and to start a new life. It represents victory for good over bad.
