DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Another scion of the Dutertes of Davao City will join the 2025 midterm elections.
This time, it is the son of Representative Paolo Duterte, 26-year-old Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, who filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for city councilor of the first district of Davao City under their local political party, Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL).
Rigo, a namesake of his grandfather and the former president, is the first of the Duterte clan to file a candidacy next year’s elections.
Rigo was accompanied by his father, brother, Brgy. Buhangin Chairman Omar Duterte and his wife Yssa Labrador when he filed his COC around 10 am Wednesday, October 2.
In a very short statement after he filed his candidacy, the young Duterte said that he was ready to serve the city council.
Meanwhile, Davao 1st District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte said he was still undecided on his political plans for the upcoming elections.
He said he was in the Davao City Comelec just to accompany his son and he did not file a COC.
“I still don’t know yet as of now, my wife and my two sons are not having interest anymore for me to delve in politics knowing the attacks of this administration against the Dutertes, we will have to talk yet with our family”, he said in a short press briefing.
Asked if anyone among the Dutertes would run for senator in this elections, Paolo said: “According to Inday (Vice President Sara), we really have to sit down on it”, he said.
As for some of their HNL allies who abandoned them and jumped to the party affiliated with Marcos, Paolo said: “Good luck to those who bolted the party, that’s politics, there is no forever, our allies before could be our rivals today.”
In a Davao Today report, second district councilor Javier Campos III, nephew of second district Representative Vincent Garcia, was seen in a group photo attending the convention of Marcos’ Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas as posted on the Presidential Communications Office site last September 26, 2024.
The Garcia clan of Davao City are long time allies of Dutertes, ever since the patriarch Rodrigo Duterte was elected mayor of Davao City. – Rappler.com
