Several SEVERE weather alerts issued for the country from TODAY

Shorts and slops or an umbrella? Here’s what the weather holds for every province in South Africa on Monday, 16 October 2023.

Severe weather alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. An Orange Level 5 warning for Disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements as well as major disruption of traffic flow along the coast between King Sabatha Dalindyebo in the Eastern Cape and Mandeni in KwaZulu-Natal.

B. A Yellow Level 2 warning for Disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of informal settlements, roads, low lying areas and bridges as well as localised disruption to municipal services in places between Buffalo City Metro and Port Edwards.

C. Yellow Level 2 warning for Severe thunderstorms with possible damaging winds, large amount of small hail, heavy downpours and are expected to cause the breaking of tree branches and damage to poorly constructed settlements over the western and central interior of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, as well as parts of Gauteng, north-eastern Free State and most parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, becoming partly cloudy from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low

Mpumalanga

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the south.

Limpopo

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

North West

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers but cloudy and cool in the east with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Free State

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the west where it will be partly cloudy.

Northern Cape

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the east, otherwise fine and cool but warm in the north.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate northerly becoming south-westerly by the afternoon.

Western Cape

Temperature: Partly cloudy over the north-eastern and southern parts, otherwise fine and warm but hot in the west. It will be cool along the coastal areas.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the west-coast becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly from the afternoon, otherwise fresh to strong south-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Partly cloudy and cold in places, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain, but scattered showers and thundershowers in the south-east.

The Western half – Windy in places in the north, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread along the coast and adjacent interior.

The Eastern half: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly, but north easterly in places in the morning.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly, becoming moderate to fresh easterly in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal

Temperature: Morning fog over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly
