A 90s pop legend has astounded TV viewers by making a cameo as a glamorous grandma searching for love… despite looking as though she hasn’t aged in 30 years.
On the latest episode of Doctor Odyssey, a medical drama set on a ship called The Odyssey, the vessel hosted an event called Singles Week, where all sorts of romantic dalliances went down.
Captain Robert Massey (Don Johnson), the captain of ship, caught the attention of a particularly special guest on board – that person being none other than music icon Shania Twain, best known for hits including Man! I Feel Like A Woman! and That Don’t Impress Me Much.
Of course, the singer wasn’t playing herself, but a character coming on board the ship, who’s encouraged to take part in Singles Week by her granddaughter.
Minutes into the episode, Shania, 59, says to her on-screen granddaughter: ‘I don’t know how I let you talk me into this. A singles cruise? I’m having heart palpitations.’
Her granddaughter responds: ‘It’s called being excited and don’t worry, I will be right here the entire time Grandma.’
Ahead of the new instalment of the series being released, the musician expressed her excitement over her cameo, writing in a post on X: ‘Catch the new episode of #DoctorOdyssey this Thursday to see a familiar face! 👀🥰.’
After fans watched the drama of the Singles Week episode upfold, several couldn’t believe that Shania – with her ageless looks – could possibly be playing a grandmother.
‘Shania Twain is playing a grandma??’ Jennifer tweeted, while Katrina added: ‘Hold up, the grandma is Shania Twain?!’ while remarking that she looked ‘familiar’.
Gretchen admitted that she ‘couldn’t believe’ the country music sensation was on the show, while several viewers also revealed how surprised they were to see Shania cosying up to Don, 74.
‘Lol Don Johnson and Shania Twain are making out on #DoctorOdyssey,’ Tanya commented, as Cindy quipped: ‘Don Johnson and Shania Twain are making out. Never thought I would see that happen.’
Mall also speculated that perhaps Shania could return to Doctor Odyssey in future, rather than just appearing in a one-off cameo.
‘That looks they both have each (Shania Twain and Don Johnson) is definitely a return for her on Doctor Odyssey I hope,’ they wrote.
This isn’t the first time Shania has shown off her acting chops, as she’s previously appeared in films and TV shows including A Man In Full, I Still Believe and Trading Paint.
Doctor Odyssey airs on ABC in the US.
